Hi everyone! It's been a little bit since I've updated this. A combination of sickness, technical difficulties, and getting distracted every time I try to write have kept me from updating.

At the beginning of March the entire household got sick. It was pretty tough and I didn’t really do anything besides sleep for days. It’s so weird when you finally start to recover from a sickness and you feel like you’ve completely lost track of time. It felt like forever until I felt fully recovered but I think I’m good now. Although I’ve been kind of lethargic.

As for the technical difficulties, first we didn’t have internet for a few days or maybe like a week. Then a few days ago the power went out. Thankfully things seem to be working now. Also I’m having trouble with the device that I am using. I’ve been using my sister’s old iPad for the last few months since my mom accidentally broke mine. I’m hoping I can get it replaced eventually because this one is pretty laggy and loses charge quickly. Sometimes it’ll completely shut down for a little while but so far it has turned back on eventually which is good. Plus there isn’t a lot of storage on this device. However I am glad that we still had this thing around and that I’m able to use it in the meantime. I’m slightly sad the new device will not have a home button. But perhaps I’ll end up not minding that too much.

Mitski’s new album “Nothing’s About to Happen to Me” released last month. I’m a big fan of her music so of course I was very excited to hear it. I think my favorites were In a Lake, If I Leave, I’ll Change for You, and That White Cat. I have only listened to the full album a few times but I do like it. I think Lush is still my favorite album by Mitski.

Okay, I don’t think I have anything else to talk about. I’m hoping to update this more regularly again. Perhaps I’ll make a separate entry about what I read for middle grade March since that’s what I talked about in my last one. Maybe I could also find some kind of discussion prompts for when I feel like writing but I don’t know what to write about.

About a month ago, I asked about cameras on my main journal. I ended up not buying a camera because 1) that costs money and 2) it occurred to me that it could be difficult (or impossible) to use most cameras, even a mirrorless camera, one-handed, holding my doll in my other hand.

Still, I am interested in improving my photos and I have a Lightroom subscription through work so I've been trying to learn more about post-processing. I use the blur feature a lot to force/fake depth of field and I recently figured out masking, which I use to lighten my dolls' under-exposed eyes.
Today, I decided to try one of the Lightroom presets that I saved on Pinterest with one of the photos I took on my DisneySea day with Mom.

I'm not 100% happy with it but I learned how to use the Color Mix feature in Lightroom Mobile.

Den of Angels is closing in August 2026. You can no longer create a new account. The forum will still be searchable but no new posts after August 15, 2026.

There's a thread to say your farewells and express your feelings. I haven't been active there since the early '10s but Den of Angels was a huge part of my teenage/college life and I'm sad to see it go.

For people who aren't into BJD at all, Den of Angels is (was?) the place for Anglophone BJD fandom for 20+ years. I joined the forum the year it opened, in 2004. It's really the end of an era.

Like I said when I posted the first picture of her with her new wig (before her new eyes arrived),

Kohaku had pink hair and mauve eyes because that's how she was styled in the listing… but the other day, I thought, I'd always wanted a doll with red hair and green eyes like Anne of Green Gables. since I don't "shell" existing characters, there was no reason not to give it a try for Kohaku.

she looks like she cut her own bangs but it's cute! maybe she's the kind of girl who cuts her own bangs. I like letting my dolls' characters evolve through playing with them like this. (I wrote a whole 7,000 word paper about it.)

A draft of that paper is available to read for free online but I will probably not update that document any more so that when I (someday, hopefully) start submitting it, it's still "previously unpublished."

…oh, and: I finally figured out masking in Lightroom Mobile and now I'm unstoppable.
